FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I know my child will be safe at Cross
Keys?
Every child's safety underpins everything we do.
We're regulated by OFSTED but do much more than just meet their
statutory requirements. We've created our own safety system and
have implemented all of the following:
- We safety-check every room twice daily during every camp
- We risk-assess every activity that takes place in every group
- No child is allowed to leave camp without being signed out
by someone you have nominated on the application form (or told
us about after your initial booking)
- To protect children with life-threatening allergies, we have
a no sharing food policy
- All our staff are under go suitability checks. We use the
Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), POCA and list 99 databases to
carry these out.
We'd understand completely if you'd like to call and chat about
specific safety issues at camp.

What is the difference between Cross
Keys and Mini Minors?
6-13 year olds at Cross Keys specialise in art drama or sport
whereas at Mini Minors they will take part in a much wider range
of activities. Other differences include:
• Cross Keys starts and finishes 30 minutes later each day
• At Cross Keys children of 4 and 5 can be in the same grop together
• At Cross Keys children of 6 and over are divided by their interests.
At Mini Minors they are split by age: 3-4, 5-7 and 8-13.
Can my 4 or 5 year old do the specialist
activities?
We’re afraid not. Our experience tells us that younger children
are more suited to a multi-activity format.
Why send my child to a ‘specialist’
activity camp?
Some children like to do a mixture of different activities. Some
children adore sports or drama or art. This is a way of concentrating
on one of those activities so your child can improve what they
are doing and, most importantly, have fun and be supported doing
it.
Why would I send my child to the Apprentice
Group instead of Mini Minors?
There are four very good reasons for sending your child to the
Apprentice Group.
- They have a big brother or sister at Cross Keys and you want
to have both children in the same camp
- The age group works out better for them e.g. a 4 year old
and a 5 year old are friends and want to be together
- You have a kid aged 4-5 and it’s half term. Mini Minors only
runs at Easter and summer. Cross Keys, however, runs in February
and October half terms as well
- They just love being at Cross Keys and wouldn’t want to be
at any other camp!
What are the times at Cross Keys?
9:30am - 3:30pm and if you need the kids to stay longer they can
stay till 4:30pm in our ‘lates session’ for a small additional
charge.
Can I book camp by the day?
No. If you want to come to camp you’re going to have to book a
full week of fun.
How many kids are there in a group?
It depends slightly from week to week but usually 24 kids with
three members of staff. We never have less than one adult to eight
kids at camp.
What do kids eat at camp?
Kids who come to Cross Keys bring a morning snack and a packed
lunch with them. We also recommend they bring a water bottle.
We have a no sharing food policy which helps protect children
with allergies. We do not check lunches but respectfuly ask you
not to put nut products in packed lunches.
