SAFETY AT CAMP

Safety underpins everything we do. We're regulated by OFSTED. Here is a link to our last inspection at XUK.
We do much more than just meet OFSTED's requirements. We've created our own safety system and have implemented all of the following:

  • We safety-check every room before any activity is allowed to take place within it
  • There is a member of staff on security duty at the entrance to camp throughout the day
  • The management team do a lock up each night to ensure all areas are safe and can not be accessed from outside
  • We risk-assess every activity that takes place at camp - All our staff undergo full training before camp starts each year. We also offer first aid courses
  • All our staff under go suitability checks. We use the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), POCA and list 99 databases to carry these out
  • We have matrons (all registered nurses) at XUK in charge of health and safety and first aid. They also look after ill children, medicin administration, hygiene and cleanliness

We'd completely understand if you'd like to call and chat about specific safety issues at camp. If you have the time, here's a link to our Policies and Procedures.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long should we come for?
This is a tricky one. It really depends on your child. The questions you should ask yourself when thinking about this are:

i. How old are they?
ii. Have they been away from home before?
iii. What do they want out of camp?
iv. Do they have friends or siblings coming with them?
Alternatively please call us. We are very experienced and can usually help you work through the decision so that we make the best decision for your child.

How do I know my child is going to be safe?
Ofsted are the government organisation responsible for regulation childcare in England. They say about us: “Staff give high priority to ensuring children are safe, both inside and outside the premises. They consistently carry out the procedures outlined in the safety policies contributing to the children's sense of security and protection. The health and safety records have been recently updated to identify all potential hazards to children and the precautions necessary to ensure children are safe.”

What happens in the evenings?
The evenings are when some of the most exciting activities happen! We have a special evening activity each night. On the opening evening we always kick off with team competitions and initiation games. This lets children relax and get to know each other. Other evenings we have BBQ’s, Murder mysteries, pool parties, casino nights and many more!!

What is the food like?
The food is varied and healthy. Every mealtime each child has a choice of meal. If, for any reason, they do not like the choices we have a pasta and salad bar which is always stocked high!! Fruit, bread and drinks are available all day.

How many English speaking kids are there?
XUK is an English speaking camp. Our staff team speak English and all our activities are run in English. The earlier the week the less English kids there are but many of our children from abroad speak fluent English.
If you are coming from abroad we are sure your child will receive the whole English culture at XUK!
